Dear Friends and Readers,
Truly, the human ingenuity, once again, shows up in time of change and need, to amaze me. Allow me to share this design of a Solar Floating Boat/Island/Resort that responds to the need of renewable/solar energy and world’s rising ocean by featuring a thin film solar skin applied to a light weight balsa-reinforced fiberglass hull. This Solar Floating Resort (SFR) is a unique hospitality concept, part habitation, part yacht, and part submarine (with a transparent room or observation bulb in the belly or in the equivalent of the basement region so to enable resident some extreme underwater tourism). The Italian designer Michele Puzzolante came up with the round shape for this vessel to provide constant exposure to the sun, so there is plenty of solar energy to charge/feed batteries to supply clean energy through the night. This Solar Floating Resort (SFR), with a 20-m length and 110 square meter deck, features two double and two single bedrooms, each with its private bathroom, a kitchen, dining room, lounge area and bridge. The SFR is cleverly laid out to provide quiet niches and grand views in its interior;for example, the attached baths have a space-saving water closet hanging off the tub. The core of the vessel is a large kitchen and bar, with a center spiral staircase leading down to the observatory bulb. Designer Puzzolante says that it is “entirely self-powering thanks to the dye-sensitized solar cells” that are fitted into the vessel’s walls. Between the exterior thin film solar skin and interior dye-sensitized PV surface, there is a 30-centimeter vacuum for insulation. Without any more of my 2D descriptions, please view the clip below for your own interpretation of this wonderful conceptual floating hotel suite:
I should say, when there is a need-will-creativity, there is a way. I am really looking forward to all kinds of wonderful designs waiting to surface in our renewable energy world.
~have a bright and sunny day~
