I’ve been away for quite a while. But this event definitely needs to be shared, despite how busy life may get. Even though the focus of Sun Is The Future is to promote, educate, and share information regarding solar energy, please do keep in mind that the transition into use of solar energy would help to reduce pollution, solve energy problem, slow down climate change, eliminate international conflicts, and generate local jobs and economy.

This may seem to be the worst of times, but it holds the promise of a future for the best of times….on this eve of the COP 21 climate talks (when leaders of nearly 200 countries will be joining for a global conference on climate change in Paris), climate activists and Parisians once again stepped up with creativity, in Place de Republique, to demonstrate not only to those in the City of the Light, but also to all of those around the world: placing about 20,000 pairs of shoes as a symbol of the poignant “silent march,” after being told by French authorities that they couldn’t march in Paris. This is a way of symbolically and powerfully joining the climate march and each pair of shoes shows the determination of Parisians to have their voices heard on climate change,” said Iain Keith of Avaaz, which helped plan the action. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon dropped off a pair of his running shoes, saying, “As the world gathers in Paris to stand up for climate action, let us also stand in the shoes of all victims of terrorism, war and persecution and respond with compassion.” Pope Francis sent along a pair of shoes to be placed on his behalf.

When the clock struck noon in Paris today (Nov. 29, 2015), thousands of Parisians and activists joined hands to form a human chain down Boulevard Voltaire, starting from Place de Republique, passing the Bataclan Theater (where most of the lives were taken during the tragic attacks of November 13th), and down to Place de la Nation. At the Bataclan, participants left a 100-meter gap for the memorials that line the sidewalks. Nearly 10,000 people participated in this human chain, according to Agence France Presse.

We joined hands today against climate change and violence,” said Hoda Baraka, Global Communications Manager for 350.org. “People here in Paris, and hundreds of thousands who are taking part in climate marches worldwide, have a clear message for world leaders: keep fossil fuels in the ground and finance a just transition to 100% renewable energy.” In London an estimated 50,000 showed up. In Belfast and Berlin and Barcelona, climate activists took to the streets. Here in the United States, climate marches are underway in New York and Nashville, in Louisville and (later today) in Los Angeles. In Bargny, Senegal, demonstrators flowed through the streets. Please allow me to share some of the images by 350.org of marches (Global Climate March) that broke out in Africa, Asia, Australia, Middle East, Europe, and North and South America.

Reaction To Biggest People’s Climate March In History-Please Implement Feed-In-Tariff For Renewable Energy With Incorporation of True Value of Each and Every Renewable Energy

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,
Please click and view the video below for The Biggest People’s Climate March Ever!

(Please click on red links and note magenta)

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of NYC, other cities in USA and elsewhere in the world, on Sunday (September 21, 2014), Monday (September 22, 2014) and Tuesday (September 23, 2014), demanding world leaders to do more to take serious actions to slow the Climate Change. In NYC (New York City) alone, there were 310,000 people showing up to march for Climate Justice. So far, there is no global agreement on what to do regarding Climate Change, even though some countries have already taken actions in reducing CO2 emissions (such as Australia’s previous Carbon Tax, European nations (esp. policies by Germany, Italy, and UK), China’s, Taiwan’s, and Japan’s Feed-In-Tariff for Solar & Wind & switching from coal to natural gas, U.S. has switched from coal to natural gas and increased solar and wind installations). This largest climate march in history involves approximately 1500 organizations, but is mostly organized by AVAAZ (with membership of over 30 million people according to wikipedia) and  350.org . It has brought together great diversity of people from different social, economic, political, and religious affiliations. It is purposely designed to take place prior to the UN meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, when discussion regarding future direction and finance associated with the topic of climate change will be taking place.

Here, at Sun Is The Future, we’d like to implore leaders of the world to consider implementing Feed-In-Tariff For Renewable Energy: Feed-In Tariffs (FITs) have proven to be the world’s most successful policy for delivering large quantities of renewable energy generation quickly and cheaply. It will help to develop vibrant renewable energy industries (solar-wind-water-geothermal-wave ) that will Reduce CO2 emissions, Slow Climate Change, Solve Energy Problem, Create Local Jobs,  by using our abundant Sunshine and various Renewable Resources. We believe, by implementing Feed-In-Tariff For Renewable Energy, incorporating True Value of Each and Every Renewable Energy, Feed-In-Tariff For Renewable Energy will be implemented most effectively.

This is what hope looks like:

On Monday, 310,000 people took to the streets of New York City to call for climate action — the largest climate march in history.

And on Tuesday, the world’s politicians will gather in New York to talk about climate action — 125 heads of state in total. They’ll be gathering with the knowledge that more people than ever are demanding action, not just words, and that their political future is on the line — as well as the future of the planet.

We will bring that message to the top leadership of the UN inside Tuesday’s summit, with a hand-delivered message to top UN climate negotiators. If you stand with the hundreds of thousands of people who marched today around the world, tell world leaders that you mean business: act.350.org/letter/ready-for-action/

Today people from the communities where fossil fuels are dug up marched alongside people who live where they are burned. Thousands of workers, the people who stand ready to build a clean, renewable energy system, walked alongside indigenous communities that are already leading with their own climate solutions.

New Yorkers, including those whose homes were wrecked by Superstorm Sandy, marched in huge numbers, standing alongside international ambassadors from communities responding to climate disasters worldwide.

The ripples of the People’s Climate Mobilization are already spreading. A people’s summit outlining the path to a just transition away from fossil fuels starts tomorrow, along with actions targeting corporate polluters in New York.

With your help those ripples can spread further, and strengthen — and on Tuesday, hopefully help rock world leaders into action, where they have only offered words before.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————

We hope the UN leaders have heard our voices and will seriously consider implementing Feed-In-Tariff For Renewable Energy With Incorporation of True Value of Each and Every Renewable Energy throughout our planet earth.

Hurray! Finally, the Re-installation of Solar Panels on the White House Roof!

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,

(Please click on red links below)

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Please show your support for Renewable Energy by visiting-signing-sharing Renewable-FIT For Sunshine State!

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

FINALLY…. the Obama administration  started the reinstallation of solar panels on  White House roof this week,

White House south facade

after initially pledging to do so almost three years ago, in October of 2010. On Thursday, August 15, 2013, we have words from the White House official, “The White House has begun installing American-made solar panels on the First Family’s residence as part of an energy retrofit that will improve the overall energy efficiency of the building.” The retrofit will also include updating building controls and variable-speed fans. “The project will help demonstrate that historic building can incorporate solar energy and energy efficiency upgrades,” according to the official’s email.

Over the years, there had been various solar advocates clamoring for installations of solar panels on the roof of the White House;to name a few, Rhone Resch of SEIA (seen below in the video of 2010) and Bill McKibben of 350.org (report below):

In 1979 President Jimmy Carter

Former President Jimmy Carter, the first U.S. President who installed solar panels on the White House roof in 1979

installed solar panels on the roof, but was later taken down by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. “No one should have ever taken down the panels Jimmy Carter put on the roof,” 350.org founder Bill McKibben said in an emailed press statement. “But it’s very good to know that once again the country’s most powerful address will be drawing some of that power from the sun.”

Bill McKibben, the 350.org Climate Change activist who has urged the White House to reinstall solar panels on its roof over the years

In 2010, McKibben brought attention to the issue when he discovered one of the panels of White House roof of 1979 being used to heat water for  Maine’s Unity College  cafeteria. In September of 2010, McKibben and Unity College students returned the panel to the White House, asking for it to be reinstalled. Although the request was denied at the time, the White House announced the solar panel bid one month later. Even though this installation took quite a while to come to fruition, McKibben seemed optimistic with administration’s renewed interest. “Better late than never,” the activist commented in a recent statement.

As global warming becomes widely recognized as a serious issue, solar advocates every where are hopeful that politicians and policy makers will look to solar and renewable energy as the alternative energy source that will enable the slowing of the global warming. We remain optimistic and keep working steadfastly toward our goal of transitioning into the renewable and solar energy age of the future! Hopefully, more of you will be visiting-signing-sharing the Renewable-Fit For Sunshine State petition above. For we believe that all of us would like our future generations to inherit a clean, healthy, and war-free planet earth from us.

In The Aftermath of Sandy, A Call For More Solar Energy !

Share

Dear Friends & Visitors/Viewers/Readers from 149 countries,

(Please click on red link below)

One of the comments I’ve received from one of our Visitors/Viewers/Readers, via FaceBook, with regard to our Oct. 30, 2012 post “In Light of Hurricane Sandy, We Need More Solar Power ! We Need More Distributed Solar Power !, below:

My guess Susan is that solar energy provided less than .0001% of the energy in the storm region during this storm.”

I am glad that J had brought this up and my response to J is:  But J, we’re talking about after the storm…these regions will be out of power for days to weeks because they are not on distributed solar power. And they’re much more likely to be able to have power if they were on distributed solar power….not to mention the fact that if there were greater dependence on solar power and less dependence on fossil fuels, Hurricane Sandy would probably have been of much lower intensity level.   At this point, I’d like to reiterate item 10. and item 17. of  our Oct. 30 post:

  • 10.This afternoon, the climate activist group 350.org said it had asked its nationwide network of supporters to not only donate to the Red Cross in the aftermath of this week’s  devastating storm, but also to “urge the fossil fuel industry to divert the millions of dollars they are spending to influence the election towards vital recovery efforts.”  The group posted a petition on its website and claimed that “thousands” had already signed it.  Scientists say pollution arising from the burning of fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal significantly contributes to global warming, which in turn can increase the intensity of storms like Hurricane Sandy.  If you are interested in supporting 350.org  members in 189 countries, please go to 350.org
  • 17. Former VP Al Gore’s  blog post warned today, “the storm that ravaged the East Coast Monday is “a disturbing sign of things to come. We must heed this warning and act quickly to solve the climate crisis. Dirty energy makes dirty weather.”
  • I would also like to invite you to see this clip below, on “Hurricane Sandy Aftermath: Widespread Power Outages Expected”, with forecast of potentially 10 millions without electricity (whereas Irene left 7 millions without electricity) for a week or more:

Here, at Sun Is The Future, we are calling for more Solar Power, we are calling for more Large-Scale and Distributed Solar Power! We need more  Solar Power everywhere ! Not only is Solar Power the cleanest power that would help to reduce the dumping of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every day, reduce the climate crisis, it is also more likely to allow us to have distributed power that would enable us to respond during crisis, enabling us to still have power individually rather than massively be without power. Write to your state (current and future) legislators and show your concern and support for policies that would encourage installations of Solar and Renewable Energy!  Time to Act!  At this point, I would like to invite you to visit several sites below, to help further your understanding and appreciation of some of the initiatives that have taken place.  Right now more than 16 states are in the process of working on State Initiatives for Solar. Please visit votesolar.org .  Nebraska state has a group working on this also, even though they may not be currently listed under the State Initiatives at votesolar.org and the same is true for Florida and others. So keep checking back for other states that will be added in the future.  To find out your state candidates’ past voting record, please go to votesmart.org .  For more information on how you may be able to take part in helping to make the transition into our Renewable/ Solar Energy Age, please visit these sites below:

    1. votesolar.org & VoteSolar YouTube Channel
    2. American Solar Energy Society
    3. Alliance For Renewable Energy
    4. Solar Electric Power Association
    5. Solar Energy Industries Association
    6. Sun Is The Future & sunisthefuture YouTube Channel

Please also keep in mind to check on the voting record of your respective state candidates and choose to support those who will support Effective/Sound  Renewable/Solar Energy bills !  If you have any questions/comments/suggestions/concerns, please feel free to email sunisthefuture@gmail.com and I will try to answer/respond/try to set your mind at ease or redirect you to better source. Please let us know if you’ve had some experience (in working toward/making the transition toward the solar/renewable energy age) that you’d like to share with others/us.
