Here is an update of a very meaningful project/campaign of one of our own Central Floridians, Marshall Pitcairn, owner of ZEAL (Zero Energy Apartment Living) apartment. Mr. Pitcairn is a Renaissance Man with background and experience in both computer science and entertainment. He is a single parent, juggling his time between parenthood and starting up a project initially near UCF campus and hopefully to spread to rest of the Florida and USA, during our transition toward the Clean and Renewable Future. The idea of reducing the cost of utility bills as much as possible for apartment tenants (via solar energy) is brilliant and definitely the right direction for our renewable future.

“ZEAL Apartments are fully powered by renewable energy, with enough to cover everybody’s normal usage for today, so you don’t have to skimp on your amenities,” Marshall Pitcairn comments, “The electricity is included in the rent, and the rent will be comparable to other apartments in the area. ZEAL Apartments offer to hassle sustainable living to renters and a better ROI for investors.”

Marshall Pitcairn has begun his Indiegogo campaign on Nov.18, 2016 for a duration of 30 days, at this location: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/zeal-apartments-solar#/

This Indiegogo campaign will help to raise the funds for starting building the first ZEAL Apartments. Any of solar supporters, clean/renewable energy enthusiasts, or community supporters, this is your chance to help to participate in a meaningful project in spreading the sunshine. In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards, including a spot on the waiting list to live in a ZEAL Apartment for $20, a spot on the waiting list and the choice of a ZEAL logo t-shirt, coffee mug, or tote bag, and more. Backers can also pledge $100 for a spot on the waiting list and personal thank you phone or skype call from the owner of the ZEAL Apartments. To find out more about this campaign or ZEAL Apartments, please contact Marshall Pitcairn via: 321-960-2630, marshall@zealapartments.com .

Don’t forget to help spread the location of Marshall’s Indiegogo campaign: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/zeal-apartments-solar#/

(Please click on red links & note magenta)

Bridgestone, local volunteers, and event organizer Chris Selwood have all done a terrific job in facilitating for the success of this event, World Solar Challenge 2015. But the reality is that much work, time, energy, and expenses are required for these universities/schools, students, and parents in order for these teams to participate (from research, design, testing, obtaining material, to plane fare and hotel expense, etc.) As a matter of fact, some of the teams that were participating in 2013 are not here in 2015 because of the lack of funding support. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you  some ingenious methods (thought up by students and participants of WSC2015) of obtaining funding for future participation in World Solar Challenges.

First Method Example: Owl of Kogakuin University Solar Vehicle Project from Japan Is For Sale !!!

Owl of Kogakuin University Solar Vehicle Project from Japan, Winner of the Cruiser Class in World Solar Challenge 2015 (credit: sunisthefuture-Susan Sun Nunamaker)

Owl of Kogakuin University Solar Vehicle Project from Japan, Winner of the Cruiser Class in World Solar Challenge 2015 (credit: sunisthefuture-Susan Sun Nunamaker)

A Historical Moment has arrived! The solar vehicle that has just come in first in the Cruiser Class of World Solar Challenge 2015, by Kogakuin University, is now selling it as a way to raise fund for future World Solar Challenge races. It is designed with a family in mind, traveling up to 100 km/h and with a carrying capacity for four. Any car collectors, car dealerships, educational institutions, or solar businesses would have a wonderful opportunity to acquire/showcase/support solar projects by considering to purchase this vehicle. If any of you out there is interested, please contact the Kogakuin Universtiy Solar Vehicle Project via email: kogakuin.solarcar@gmail.com

A shout out to Jay Leno (well known American talk show host who has a passion for collecting cars and is now running a show call Jay Leno’s Garage on CNBC)! Jay, this is the car for your show to usher in our Renewable/Solar Energy Age!!! Let’s all tweet to Jay: @jayleno  and @LenosGarage to help him realize this fantastic opportunity at World Solar Challenge!

If any other Solar Car Teams will be interested in raising fund in this manner, please keep Sun Is The Future informed so we can help you to let the world know that there is such opportunity for car enthusiasts and organizations to obtain Solar Cars !

Second Method Example: Solis Bellator of Liberty Christian School Solar Car Team from U.S.A.

Above is a student (Cameron Mutis, the media consultant of Solis Bellator) from Liberty Christian School of Argyle, TX (of USA). These students are amazing! They simply got dressed and pitched at various organizations, companies, and individuals to gather $150,000 then designed, made, and participated in World Solar Challenge 2015. In this process, they have not only learned about the building of a solar car, but also various aspects of locating resources and funding an organization or project. What they have accomplished is not easy, especially when you consider that some of the other university solar car teams are running on a budget of multiple millions of dollars and with guidance from industries. I suspect their teacher/coach Brent Dragoo had contributed much to the success of the team, for between Oct. 20-21, their charge controller died and they had to order another from the company in Brisbane to overnight it to Coober Pedy. Truly resourceful! If you should be interested in helping to support this school and/or their solar car project, please feel free to contact Liberty Christian School at 940-294-2000 (USA) and/or Donate (with Designation specified for “solar car“)

Third Method Example: Fund Raising Campaigns globally via various Crowdfunding platforms such as Indiegogo or Kickstarter, etc. Remember that there are a lot of crowdfunding platforms out there. You may find one or more most suitable for your particular situation/school by googling. Keep in mind that tips on how to start or run a successful campaign may be obtained via youtube. Incredible as it may seem, one of the well known solar campaigns funded via indiegogo was by an Idaho (USA) couple who were designing for Solar Roadway. They were asking for $1 million but ended up receiving slightly more than $2 million by the end of the whole campaign. When any one team is running a campaign, it is important to try to let as many people know about the motivation and duration of the campaign. Sun Is The Future would be gladly help to assist in letting the world know about your campaign. But it is crucial that individual solar car team would set up their own campaign and provide their own web site with appropriate contact information before contacting Sun Is The Future at sunisthefuture@gmail.com . Sun Is The Future will help to promote campaigns but would not be involved with the collection of donations.

May there always be plentiful beautiful Sunshine and sufficient funds for these beautiful Solar Cars for many many more decades to come….

More coverage on World Solar Challenge 2015 in the coming posts and at our youtube channel….

The Dutch Has Shown Us How To Produce Solar Energy & Art Via Bike Paths

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,

Solar Bike Path of Netherlands, first in the world, being installed in Nov. of 2014 (credit: notrickszone.com.)

(Please click on red links & note magenta)

My associations with people from Netherlands have always been extremely positive, enthusiastic, optimistically ambitious. So, it was not surprising that during Nov. of 2014 the Dutch (people from Netherlands) developed the first Solar Bike Path (with embedded solar cells) in the world, outside Amsterdam connecting the suburbs of Krommenie and Wormerveer! This Dutch project integrated solar panels into a bike commuter path to generate power to be funneled into the national energy grid.  The crystalline silicone solar cells are encased in two layers of tempered safety glass, mounted in a concrete housing.

According to SolaRoad, it’s been a challenge to produce energy-producing slabs that are both durable and rideable by thousands of cyclists per day. “It has to be translucent for sunlight and repel dirt as much as possible,” the company says. “At the same time, the top layer must be skid resistant and strong enough in order to realize a safe road surface.” This $3.7 million project is a collaboration between the research group TNO and the government of North Holland. Its technical aspects may be found in Phys Org site.

Active Solar Bike Path of Netherland, first in the world, installed in Nov. of 2014 (credit: pri.org)

This 70-meter or 230 feet (over two-third of the length of an NFL football field) section solar bike path is flat instead of angled to optimally take advantage of the sun, therefore the path’s panel will produce about 70% of what similar panel might produce on a rooftop.  With approximately 87,000 miles of roadways, Netherlands’s total road surface area is much larger than that of rooftops.

This project is the first step that the local government hopes will extend to 100 meter (or 328 feet) by 2016. Now that it’s been half year into the installation of the solar bike path, it’s become clear that the solar panels are outperforming expectations, having already generated 3,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. This is fantastic! In a space that previously generated no clean electricity, now it is functioning well and ready for further development and expansion. I have no doubt that the cost and overall efficiency of any solar roadway will continue to improve as more and more visionaries collaborate to enable such Clean Solar Renewable Dream of Solar Roadway to become a reality. Our hats off to the visionaries in Netherlands!

Another solar bike path later unveiled in the same month, but in the city of Eindhoven, Netherland, of the passive solar form, is inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, below:

(Be sure to view the whole  video below, “Visions of Public Art: by Daan Roosegaarde”….you won’t regret it….)

Of course, it is the Dutch who would embrace a challenge by innovating first, by being efficient, in being artistic while pragmatic and remaining connected to both the past and the future……look at the Solar Bike Path at night, an inspiration by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.

Our future would be simply breath-takingly beautiful, if we don’t destroy our planet first…there lies the beauty of Solar Energy…for it is the answer to Energy-Pollution-Economic Prosperity-Climate Change-International Conflicts. SO, LET’S USE IT !

As long as we’re on the subject of solar roadway, let me remind you of the Indiegogo campaign here at sunisthefuture.net for Scott & Julie Brusaw of Idaho, asking for $1 million but ended up raising more than $2.2 million for their Solar Roadway R & D project. Yes, it is exciting to live in a world where dreamers and visionaries are in many places!

We Need Your Help With This Campaign: Habitat For Humanity of Omaha-Nebraskans For Solar-Indiegogo

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers, (Please click on red links below),

Just a quick reminder about an Indiegogo campaign at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/solar-power-for-habitat-for-humanity-families#home and sharing an email from our friends Helen and Ken at the Nebraskans For Solar and Habitat For Humanity below:

Habitat For Humanity of Omaha with Solar Energy (credit: Habitat For Humanity & Nebraskans For Solar)

Hi, Sunisthefuture,

Thank you very much for your thoughtful and generous contribution to our Indiegogo campaign–and for all your help in sharing the project with others!

We have sufficient funds to solar power the first house in the historic Benson neighborhood in Omaha. Habitat volunteers are completely renovating the house and making it energy efficient, with Energy Star appliances, lots of insulation, and LED lights.

And now we are halfway toward solar powering the second Habitat house, thanks to yours and many other contributions, as well as a donation from Bank of the West. It’s a new house in South Omaha, which volunteers are now building and should be completed in August.

We’ll send you another email with photos when all five houses are built and rehabbed, with as many solar installations as we can raise funds for. We’ll also send the two solar books you’ve selected–we hope you’ll enjoy them.

Best regards always,

Helen and Ken, on behalf of Nebraskans for Solar and Habitat for Humanity of Omaha

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Those of you who would like to contribute to this campaign may find out more by visiting: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/solar-power-for-habitat-for-humanity-families#home

There are only 32 days left to raise the $32,500 goal for this campaign. So far, $8,473 of the $32,500 has been raised. Your help by foregoing a cup of coffee, a movie, or a new shirt/pants this month as a contribution to this Indiegogo campaign (for Habitat For Humanity of Omaha) will translate into thousands of dollars of savings and reduction of CO2 emission for these five low-income families for many years to come. Your donations are tax-deductible. All Indiegogo funds raised for this campaign will go directly to Habitat For Humanity of Omaha.

I hope any of you who is involved with your local community centers or Habitat For Humanity will also consider installing solar projects (such as solar hot water heater) to be implemented via collaboration campaign(s) through crowdfunding platforms such as Indiegogo.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r4uFiNtdL4) Let’s  spread more sunshine throughout our planet earth!

Revolving Fund For Community Solar Energy

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers, (Please click on red links below)

Capturing The Sun is also available at www.sunisthefuture.com (credit: sunisthefuture-Susan Sun Nunamaker)

Just a quick note to let you all know that  another solar project has been helped by crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. This time, by helping installation of 22 kW solar array at the Kehilla Community to go solar today, hopefully there will be more communities to go solar tomorrow!  The  Re-volv project campaign  at Indiegogo (a crowdfunding platform), located in San Francisco, CA, had a goal of $55,000 that ran between December 3, 2013-January 23, 2014. At the end of its campaign period, over 300 people from 20 states and 7 countries came together collectively to fund a total of $56,070 was raised. Below, you will see/hear Andreas Karelas, the RE-volv project organizer sharing RE-volv and Solar Seed Fund with us, below:

For every $1 donated Kehilla will save $2 over the life of the solar energy system. For every $1 donated RE-volv will be able to invest $3 more in solar. So, for every $1 donated, it generates an additional $5 worth of benefit. By supporting this campaign, those  who helped not only helped to finance a solar energy system for the Kehilla Community Synagogue, saving them $130,000 during the life of the system, but also helped replacing grid electricity that would have emitted 14,490 lbs of carbon dioxide each year with clean solar energy. Furthermore, each donor is paying forward to create solar energy projects today and tomorrow through a revolving fund, the Solar Seed Fund.

When donating to the Solar Seed Fund, one is investing in this solar energy project and future projects for other nonprofits and cooperatives. The Solar Seed Fund pays for solar energy installations on local community centers that pay RE-volv back over time through the savings on their energy bill. Then RE-volv reinvests the principles and revenues it makes on each project into additional solar projects-an average of 3 to 5 projects. So investing in the Solar Seed Fund would multiply the donation amount over time as RE-volv invests in more projects. All of the donations to RE-volv are tax-deductible since RE-volv is a non-profit organization.  Perks such as: photos of the completed solar installation ($25 donation level), tote bag ($50 level), Danny Kennedy’s optimistic book on energy and sustainability in America “Rooftop Revolution” ($100 level), solar phone charger ($250 level), framed photo of the solar panel funded ($500 level), listed as an Executive Producer in Kehilla solar project and listed in RE-volv’s annual report ($1000 level), VIP Solar Tour ($2,500 level), dinner with RE-volv team ($5,000 level), RE-volv’s Executive Director will come to your community to speak about solar energy ($2,500 level), are in place.

During a previous project (RE-volv’s first solar project), 300 people from 26 states and 5 countries came together and donated to make their first solar installation possible at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley, CA. This 10 KW project will not only save Shawl-Anderson thousands on the electricity bill, but their lease payments will be reinvested to finance four additional solar energy projects.

To quote from website, www.re-volv.org, below:

The idea behind RE-volv is simple: Let’s all get together, chip in a few bucks, and create a society powered by renewable energy. RE-volv, a nonprofit organization, finances local community-based solar projects through the Solar Seed Fund—a revolving fund for solar projects that raises money through crowdfunding.

We will look forward to more future projects with this organization as it expands from CA to elsewhere, for it is brilliant, collaborative, and serves its respective communities well. If your community is interested in renewable energy, RE-volv can help you to assess the renewable energy potential in your community and provide low-cost financing for your community’s renewable energy needs. For free consultation, please contact RE-volv via email at info@re-volv.org or phone 415-314-7719.

Yes, together, we earthlings may be able to invest in a brighter, cleaner future for all of our communities everywhere.

If your community is interested in renewable energy, RE-volv can help you to assess the renewable energy potential in your community and provide low-cost financing for your community’s renewable energy needs. For free consultation, please contact RE-volv via email at info@re-volv.org or phone 415-314-7719.
