Want to share this letter with you, below:

Dear Susan Sun,

The numbers are in: on January 24, more than 3 million people played a part in National “Shout Out For Solar” Day.

The following week, even President Obama gave a personal “shout out” for solar during his State of the Union speech, which was seen by nearly 35 million Americans.

By all accounts the first annual “Shout Out For Solar” Day was a huge success. We are thrilled that so many of you joined us, adding your collective voices (and Facebook feeds and Twitter handles!) to the celebration of solar’s record-shattering 2013 and to look forward to a sunny 2014.

We’ve been saying it all along: America Supports Solar. In fact, nine out of ten Americans think we should be getting more of our energy from the sun. With that in mind, we launched a new website: AmericaSupportsSolar.com, to help all of you – our solar supporters and advocates – better understand the important role solar energy plays in our economy and our environment.

Please take a moment to check out the new site and share it with your friends.

And thank you again for your support!

Ken Johnson,
Vice President
Solar Energy Industries Association

President Obama Tauts Solar Progress in State of the Union Address Speech

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers, (Please click on red links below)

Just received this press release from SEIA regarding President Obama’s annual State of Union Address speech last night:

A Sunny Day In Florida (credit: sunisthefuture-Susan Sun Nunamaker)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Giving his own “shout out for solar,” President Obama praised the U.S. solar industry in his annual State of the Union speech. Afterward, Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), released the following statement:

“From the rooftop of the White House to the floor of the People’s House, President Obama continues to show his strong, unwavering support for solar energy.  On behalf of the 143,000 Americans who work in the U.S. solar industry – and the tens of millions of people who support it – the best way to thank the President for his leadership is to go out and prove him right.  Today, we’re well on our way to doing that, with solar now the fastest-growing source of renewable energy in America, pumping tens of billions of dollars into the U.S. economy.  But despite this milestone, we believe the best is yet to come.

“Fresh off a record-breaking year, America’s solar energy industry is looking forward to another great year in 2014 – thanks, in part, to President Obama’s continued leadership and the smart public policies which are making solar more affordable than ever.  With an estimated 13,000 megawatts (MW) of solar currently installed in the U.S., we’re generating enough clean, reliable electricity today to power more than 2 million American homes – or every single home in a state the size of Colorado.  Like the President, we see 2014 as a year of action, a year of progress and a year in which more and more Americans turn to solar to save money, help meet their energy needs and improve our environment.”

Terrific! Obama Administration and Russia have combined effort in coming up with a potentially peaceful solution with respect to Syria–instead of military air strikes, they’re going to have  all of the chemical arsenals of Syria to be handed over to international control. President Obama is scheduled to address the nation on Tuesday night, Sep. 10, 2013…more details then….another day of peace is another day in the sun….we earthlings are evolving for the better! This is a wonderfully optimistic and hopeful outlook for the future of human kind.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

On this hopeful and optimistic note, I’d like to share another presentation of hope and optimism for the future.  This is a talk that took place at the World Future Society 2013 conference at Chicago, IL, in July of 2013, given by John Smart, a futurist and scholar of accelerating change. Mr. Smart is founder and president of the Acceleration Studies Foundation, an organization that does “outreach, education, research, and advocacy with respect to issues of accelerating change.” He is also running FERN (Foresight Education & Research Network) and Global Foresight (A Community Working to Advance Global Foresight Culture).

Smart is the principal advocate of the concept of “STEM compression,” (formerly “MEST compression“) the idea that the most (ostensibly) complex of the universe’s extant systems at any time (galaxies, stars, habitable planets, living systems, and now technological systems) use progressively less space, time, energy and matter (“STEM”) to create the next level of complexity in their evolutionary development (www.accelerationwatch.com/mest.html). A similar perspective is found in Buckminster Fuller’s writings on ephemeralization.

I invite you all to this energized presentation on 10 areas of technology that John Smart summarized as the Possible-Probable-Preferrable areas of technology waiting for our exploration in the future. For his presentation slides, please click on: www.accelerating.org/slides . In the video presentation below, we also get to see recommendations on multiple books  (such as: The Art of The Long View by Peter Schwartz, Factor Five by Ernst von Weizsacker, A Guide to Open Innovation and Crowd Sourcing by multiple contributors, Predictive Analyticsby Eric Siegel, etc., available at www.amazon.com.) resulting from in-depth research and insight. Enjoy!

We have already seen much change or development in solar energy. I believe in the years to come, our world will also realize even more of its accelerated exponential change with regard to solar energy.

Hurray! Finally, the Re-installation of Solar Panels on the White House Roof!

FINALLY…. the Obama administration  started the reinstallation of solar panels on  White House roof this week,

White House south facade

after initially pledging to do so almost three years ago, in October of 2010. On Thursday, August 15, 2013, we have words from the White House official, “The White House has begun installing American-made solar panels on the First Family’s residence as part of an energy retrofit that will improve the overall energy efficiency of the building.” The retrofit will also include updating building controls and variable-speed fans. “The project will help demonstrate that historic building can incorporate solar energy and energy efficiency upgrades,” according to the official’s email.

Over the years, there had been various solar advocates clamoring for installations of solar panels on the roof of the White House;to name a few, Rhone Resch of SEIA (seen below in the video of 2010) and Bill McKibben of 350.org (report below):

In 1979 President Jimmy Carter

Former President Jimmy Carter, the first U.S. President who installed solar panels on the White House roof in 1979

installed solar panels on the roof, but was later taken down by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. “No one should have ever taken down the panels Jimmy Carter put on the roof,” 350.org founder Bill McKibben said in an emailed press statement. “But it’s very good to know that once again the country’s most powerful address will be drawing some of that power from the sun.”

Bill McKibben, the 350.org Climate Change activist who has urged the White House to reinstall solar panels on its roof over the years

In 2010, McKibben brought attention to the issue when he discovered one of the panels of White House roof of 1979 being used to heat water for  Maine’s Unity College  cafeteria. In September of 2010, McKibben and Unity College students returned the panel to the White House, asking for it to be reinstalled. Although the request was denied at the time, the White House announced the solar panel bid one month later. Even though this installation took quite a while to come to fruition, McKibben seemed optimistic with administration’s renewed interest. “Better late than never,” the activist commented in a recent statement.

As global warming becomes widely recognized as a serious issue, solar advocates every where are hopeful that politicians and policy makers will look to solar and renewable energy as the alternative energy source that will enable the slowing of the global warming. We remain optimistic and keep working steadfastly toward our goal of transitioning into the renewable and solar energy age of the future! Hopefully, more of you will be visiting-signing-sharing the Renewable-Fit For Sunshine State petition above. For we believe that all of us would like our future generations to inherit a clean, healthy, and war-free planet earth from us.

Congratulations! President Obama!

Dear Friends & Visitors/Viewers/Readers,

(Please click on red links below)

Due to our concern for renewable/solar energy and clean environment issues, this is the first time, ever, that we allowed presidential/political campaign sign to be placed in front of our home…for President Obama is the first U.S. President who has the wisdom to name some one such as Steven Chu, who is actually worthy of the title of Secretary of Energy Department to head this critically important department.

The Only "Blue" For Obama sign in a Central Florida neighborhood

Our house had the only  “blue” sign among our neighbors/block and it is with great pleasure that I would like to share this congratulatory letter from SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association) and a video clip on President Obama’s Energy and Environment Achievements, below:

SEIA Congratulates Obama on Re-Election, Praises Administration’s Energy Policy

WASHINGTON, DC — The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) today released the following statement from president and CEO Rhone Resch in reaction to President Barack Obama’s re-election for a second term:

“SEIA congratulates President Barack Obama on his re-election. President Obama has been a tremendous supporter of solar energy and we look forward to continuing to work with the Obama Administration over the next four years.

“To date, the Obama Administration has created and supported pro-solar policies that have been vital to the success of the industry. Solar installations and jobs have risen dramatically throughout the U.S, while costs have fallen. Today, the solar industry employs more than 119,000 Americans at 5,600 companies, mostly small businesses, across all 50 states – this is more than double the number of Americans working in solar in 2009.

“Since President Obama took office, the amount of solar powering homes, businesses, and military bases has grown by 400 percent – from 1,100 megawatts in 2008 to more than 5,700 megawatts today. The Administration enacted a policy allowing solar installations for the first time on public lands and set a goal to permit 10 gigawatts of additional renewable energy projects on public lands by the end of 2012, which has been a great driver of this growth. The U.S. now has enough installed solar capacity to power nearly a million households, and 2012 will be another year of record growth for our industry.

“Policy certainty is crucial to continue the growing role of solar in America’s energy mix.  Stable policy frameworks at the federal and state level, including maintaining and expanding commitments to renewable energy initiatives, spur and leverage private sector investments in the solar industry to meet our nation’s future energy needs.

“As we recover from the recession, America needs plentiful and diverse energy resources, including solar, to power our economy. Solar is clean, reliable, and more affordable than ever. Since the beginning of 2011, the average cost of solar panels has dropped more than 50 percent and the cost of a solar electric system has dropped by more than a third, thanks to innovation, entrepreneurship, and strong federal and state policies leveraging private investment.

More than nine out of 10 voters want the U.S. to develop and use more solar power, and the president understands the importance of solar to the American people. The solar industry looks forward to continuing our productive working relationship with the Obama Administration, the incoming 113th Congress, and state legislatures throughout the country to create smart policies that help power our homes and businesses with domestic energy and create jobs across America.”
