Phaijang B is a group formed by women of common interest to get a loan for buying mini-solar home lighting systems so that their families stay in a better home environment at night, due to the shortage in the power supply in their area. Lamhat (32), the featured member of the group with her hand raised, is skilled in weaving and devotes most of her time to weaving different types of traditional shawls to generate income. She lives in a very remote village called Phaijang which is a 45-minute drive from Imphal, Manipur. Their family includes the mother, father, and three school-going children.  She considers education a key to achieve one’s aim in life and had been giving her best effort to give the best to her children to excel in their education. As the area faces insufficient power supply, their daily duties are affected after dusk, especially the study hours of the children after sunset. After buying the mini solar home lighting system, the children are able to study in comfort after dusk and for longer period with better concentration. Their academic performance is much better now which is the reason for availing the loan. While the children study under the solar home lighting, the mother does the household chores and weaves in comfort. Her weaving hours were limited before, but now she can weave in the evening and increase her production. The family is very happy to receive such a loan and thanks WSDS for lending such a loan. Time For Collaboration! Sunny Day in FL (credit: sunisthefuture-Susan Sun Nunamaker)

(the letter below is inspired by one of the Kiva Zip businesses that is seeking help with marketing)

Greetings, Kiva Team,

Sunisthefuture Team at Kiva would like to propose a collaborative effort with small businesses at Kiva Zip:

Our goal here at Sun Is The Future is in speeding up the transition toward solar energy age via education and helping entrepreneurs to establish small businesses in solar energy/ renewable energy/energy efficiency/ recycling, and online store. Understanding that limited budget for marketing is a common theme for many small business owners, I’d like to call the attention to ways of reducing costs while receiving marketing and PR help for these small business owners:

Firstly, any small businesses at kiva.zip.org that has installed solar system and provided sunisthefuture.net with photos of their solar rooftop system and permission to post/promote will be recognized at sunisthefuture.net and will be promoted by Sun Is The Future at various social networks (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Google+) 3 times for a period of a week. For those that (think) cannot afford the initial cost of installing solar systems, please view these posts:

  1. Clean Energy Is Made Easy With Solar City
  2. Go Solar! With Solar City, Solar Is Ready To Go Mainstream!
  3. Elon Musk, The Game Chanager & Risk Taker Who Sped Up Transition Toward Renewables
  4. Solar City Teaming Up With Tesla

Hopefully, they will have realized that Solar City will be able to install solar system (in states where Solar City exists) at their rooftops for free so that these small businesses would simply purchase their electricity through Solar City. These small businesses, once having installed solar systems through Solar City on their rooftops or via Community Solar Gardens in a community solar garden ,  will be able to receive promotion by Sun Is The Future at sunisthefuture.net and via social networks, as mentioned above, free of charge. Be sure to submit the photos of your solar system and a letter/email of permission for the use of your photos in order for Sun Is The Future to promote your business online.  Why do you want to be promoted by Sun Is The Future?  There are readers/viewers from over 164 countries here at Sun Is The Future.

May we all work together in speeding toward our Earthly Solar Future!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ve received some of your emails regarding questions/concerns in how to obtain funding to start a solar/renewable energy/energy efficiency small business.  Here are some info/links that may be of assistance to you:

Furthermore, there are also several other avenues for finance one may consider upon starting one’s own business:

  • Self-financing
  • Loans from family and friends (agreement in writing is highly recommended)
  • Private stock issue
  • Forming partnerships  (General Partnership: all partners are individually personally responsible for their debts and all partners has the power to manage the business; Limited Partnerships: only general partners have control over management, whereas limited partners are only responsible for the debts to the extent of their investment in the business and no influence in management of the business at all; Limited Liability Partnership: all partners have limited liability but all also have power to manage the business.)
  • Venture capital: supplied by the professional investors and given to new growing businesses with impressive business venture plans. Financing is done by third-party investors investing from the professionally managed fund (generated by managing the pooled money of others.)
  • Angel Investors: wealthy individuals lending his/her own personal funds to help set up a business and in return generally acquires ownership equity of the business. Now a days, multiple Angel Investors are forming Angel Groups or Angel Networks engaging them in financing small businesses to a greater extent (example:  Oprah’s The Angel Network.)
  • Bank loans, donations, grants and subsidies are also potential sources of finance for small businesses (as seen above in various links).

Let’s speed up our ability to spread the sunshine across our planet earth by empowering  solar (or other)  entrepreneurs!  Hurry Up, there are not that many free $25 left!
