Hazel Henderson of World Future Society & Ethical Markets Media

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,
(Please click on red links and note magenta)

It is my pleasure to be able to get an interview  during World Future Society 2014 at Orlando, FL, with Hazel Henderson, a futurist and an economic iconoclast. Ms. Henderson, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Britain in 1961, has worked in television and had authored several books, including Building A Win-Win World, Beyond Globalization, Planetary Citizenship (with Daisaku Ideda), and Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy. She is now a producer for the public television series Ethical Markets.

Ms. Henderson believes that the various threats to peace, community security, and good environment have led us into a new era in which we are obliged to look for values, information, and know-how that we seemed to be able to do without until recent decades. She is the founder of World Future Society and advocates Green Transition Scoreboard (will be mentioned in our next post’s video). The charming Ms. Henderson had been an early environmentalist and advocate who searched for solutions for our environmental issues and challenges.

One of her famous aphorism compare the occidental economic model to a cake with three level, with glass on the top: the first level is the nature, the second level is the subsistence economy, the third level is the public and private economy and the last level is the finance. (Be sure to check into our next post’s video on Green Investment).

“Solar Tsunami” Shared by the Effervescent Professor Jose Cordeiro of Singularity University during World Future Society 2014

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,

(Please click on red links and note magenta)

On July 12, 2014, during the World Future Society 2014 at Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, Orlando, FL, I caught up with the hopeful  Professor Jose Cordeiro (trained at MIT) of Singularity University, to share some of his optimism about the future of Solar and Renewable Energy. He even used the term, “Solar Tsunami” to demonstrate that our energy future will soon be  that of Solar Energy every where. There is no stopping it for Solar Energy is Clean, Healthy, Every Where, and Cheap. We’re facing an exciting future where there will be solar roadways, solar cars, solar planes, solar trains, solar boats, self-driving cars, and much much more wireless. We will see a future with far more distributed solar power rather than centralized power.

Professor Jose Luiz Cordeiro, the Venezuelen scientist, futurist, economist, engineer, and columnist, is extremely enthusiastic because he is excited about sharing information and being a proactive futurist. In the link below, you can find out the four potential types of attitudes toward the future described by Professor Cordeiro in his TED talk, “The Future Is Not What Is Used To Be: Jose Luis Cordeiro at TEDxRio+20“.  Professor Cordeiro literally effervesces for he is able to fully appreciate both the danger and opportunities our future is availing us. This is a common characteristics one finds in Solar Enthusiasts and Futurists; the thought of potential future free energy and transhumanism simply holds such incredible promises that one cannot help oneself but become effervescent!

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ve delayed posting this piece because I wanted to wait until after finishing reading the book that I am about to post, Minitrends. I met its co-author, Carrie Vanston, at the World Future Society 2013 Conference in Chicago, IL during the month of July.  Below: Ms. Vanston, with a pleasant and personable demeanor, sat down to chat about her book Minitrends and the Annual MiniTrends Conferences that may be of interest to many of our viewers/readers who are innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs of emerging technologies:

I’m glad Minitrends is in the top quarter of my reading pile (with a list of over 60 books). It turned out to be quite a gem, well deserving of the Pinnacle Book Achievement Best Business Book Award and several other book awards.  With 30 years of experience as a technology forecasting expert, Dr. Vanston teaches us how to scope out a systematic and doable discovery path through diverse sources containing clues about changes just  beginning to happen. In the book, minitrends are described as the innumerable ripples within the sea swells of established ideas, with some of these ripples destined to be the genesis of waves, or even tsunamis (such as modern computing).  The challenge lies in  finding the ripples (with tangible destiny) within the large body of established ideas and shape them into products or services. The book is divided into five parts:

Cover of the book, Minitrends, by John H. Vanston Ph.D. with Carrie Vanston

  1. The Value of Minitrends
  2. Uncovering Minitrends
  3. Some Attractive Minitrends
  4. Prospering From Minitrends
  5. Becoming a Minitrends Master

Ms. Vanston represents the company Technology Futures Inc. which provides quality custom studies and technology forecasts on key trends to a wide variety of commercial, government, and academic organizations. Through Technology Futures Inc., authors John H. Vanston Ph.D. and Carrie Vanston compiled valuable list of best practices in the book “Minitrends” to guide entrepreneurs and innovators to profit from their respective passions while making a significant impact in our world. Minitrends represent current small emerging trends (technical, social, economic, regulatory, demographic, etc.) that will become important within two to five years, not yet recognized but can be projected/forecasted, with value driven purpose. This book is a great source for ideas for new ventures and is currently available in printed and/or e-book format at amazon.com. To create opportunities for innovators to meet, Technology Future Inc. also hosted MiniTrends 2013 Conference (2nd Annual Conference) in Austin, TX, focused on the topic of The Integration of Profit & Social Responsibility. Upcoming Minitrends 2014 Conference will take place in Austin, TX during Fall of 2014. This conference  will be attended by visionaries and thought-leaders looking for opportunities not yet widely recognized. To find out more details about Minitrends 2014 Conference, please feel free to contact: (512) 258-8898, or Toll Free (800)TEK-FUTR or email info@tfi.com

If you are some one who is in search of innovative ideas, be it for individuals, small-, medium-, large- size companies, and want to become a master at developing  and/or prospering from such trends, the book “Minitrends” by John H. Vanston with Carrie Vanston may be purchased via amazon.com. If you are looking for events to interact with other innovators and thought-leaders interested in future of technologies, please feel free to go to: www.minitrends.com/contact to find out when and where the 3rd Annual MiniTrends Conference will be held.

John Smart at World Future Society 2013 Conference

Share

Dear Friends, Visitors/Viewers/Readers,

(Please click on red links below)

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Terrific! Obama Administration and Russia have combined effort in coming up with a potentially peaceful solution with respect to Syria–instead of military air strikes, they’re going to have  all of the chemical arsenals of Syria to be handed over to international control. President Obama is scheduled to address the nation on Tuesday night, Sep. 10, 2013…more details then….another day of peace is another day in the sun….we earthlings are evolving for the better! This is a wonderfully optimistic and hopeful outlook for the future of human kind.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

On this hopeful and optimistic note, I’d like to share another presentation of hope and optimism for the future.  This is a talk that took place at the World Future Society 2013 conference at Chicago, IL, in July of 2013, given by John Smart, a futurist and scholar of accelerating change. Mr. Smart is founder and president of the Acceleration Studies Foundation, an organization that does “outreach, education, research, and advocacy with respect to issues of accelerating change.” He is also running FERN (Foresight Education & Research Network) and Global Foresight (A Community Working to Advance Global Foresight Culture).

Smart is the principal advocate of the concept of “STEM compression,” (formerly “MEST compression“) the idea that the most (ostensibly) complex of the universe’s extant systems at any time (galaxies, stars, habitable planets, living systems, and now technological systems) use progressively less space, time, energy and matter (“STEM”) to create the next level of complexity in their evolutionary development (www.accelerationwatch.com/mest.html). A similar perspective is found in Buckminster Fuller’s writings on ephemeralization.

I invite you all to this energized presentation on 10 areas of technology that John Smart summarized as the Possible-Probable-Preferrable areas of technology waiting for our exploration in the future. For his presentation slides, please click on: www.accelerating.org/slides . In the video presentation below, we also get to see recommendations on multiple books  (such as: The Art of The Long View by Peter Schwartz, Factor Five by Ernst von Weizsacker, A Guide to Open Innovation and Crowd Sourcing by multiple contributors, Predictive Analyticsby Eric Siegel, etc., available at www.amazon.com.) resulting from in-depth research and insight. Enjoy!

We have already seen much change or development in solar energy. I believe in the years to come, our world will also realize even more of its accelerated exponential change with regard to solar energy.
